The Peacemaker series focused on the field work of peace negotiators, and inspired actress and singer Irina Björklund to write a musical album from the perspective of her role.
”Who is mystical Ann-Mari? As an actress, I was intrigued by what kind of person can work as a peace negotiator – what kind of starting point is needed to live up to those tight frames? What keeps pushing her forward? What kind of emotions does she hide in her everyday life? What dreams does she have to give up because of her career? And in the end, is peace even in her hands…?” Björklund ponders.
The album was made remotely during the covid-pandemic, each musician working from home. The result is an energizing praise for Finnish peace work, and it was also supported by Taike, the Arts Promotion Centre Finland. The material is mainly in English, but strongly rooted into Finland just like Peacemaker’s main character. Björklund’s composing partners were Emma 2020 awarded folk band Pauanne (Kukka Lehto, Tero Pennanen, Janne Haavisto), as well as Janne Lappalainen (also with Värttinä) who is known also from Björklund’s band. The arrangements have been made by this ensemble who will be on stage together. Björklund has translated Finnish goldies into French in recent years – and J. H. Erkko that she now has translated into English. During this record release tour she will also perform music from the new series.
Duration: 2 hours, including intermission.
