Do we get to choose our destiny or is life predetermined?
A tough-as-nails repo man shows up to evict a woman from her apartment. Something unexpected happens, throwing the man off and sending him deep into his conscience. Turns out this sordid residence has some pretty dark secrets, and even the next tenants aren’t safe.
Somewhere on the outskirts of Budapest and a universe falling to pieces, far away from the main stages of power, people keep on with their habits and routines. Imitation of Life tells a powerful and stingingly beautiful story of broken roots and hidden fates in the shadows of a metropolis. It is a cinematic, gravity-defying spectacle that creates a breathtaking and poetic picture of the frayed edges of society, a place where injustice is the unwritten rule.
Based on actual events and directed by Kornél Mundruczó, a trailblazer of contemporary European theatre, Imitation of Life makes a razor-sharp point regarding the changes in Hungarian society.
Performed in Hungarian, subtitled in Finnish and English.
