ARJA SAIJONMAA EMBARKS ON THE A SONG FOR FREEDOM CONCERT TOUR ACROSS FINLAND IN SPRING 2026
One of the most beloved singers of our time, Arja Saijonmaa, will tour Finland in spring 2026 with her A Song for Freedom concert tour. In this deeply personal and passionate performance, Saijonmaa opens up her extraordinary life story through her most cherished songs and captivating anecdotes. The tour arrives at Tampere Hall on Saturday, 25 April 2026.
This unique and intimate tour is named after Saijonmaa’s autobiography, published in October, and marks her first extensive tour in Finland in quite some time. After each concert, a meet-and-greet will be held during which Saijonmaa will sign books and albums.
“The songs of my life have come to me in mysterious ways, as if they were searching for me across the world. With the A Song for Freedom tour, I want to share these magical stories with the audience. It feels wonderful to finally embark on a long tour across my beloved homeland!”
— Arja Saijonmaa
Arja Saijonmaa is one of the most iconic singers in Nordic music history and a true trailblazer. Her 50-year career has been filled with remarkable moments: she has sung with Mikhail Gorbachev, ventured into the jungles of Central America, visited Yasser Arafat’s desert bunker, and risen to stardom in Finland, Sweden and Norway alike. Her artistic life has been marked by great success as well as profound personal and professional setbacks, all of which she recounts with warmth, honesty and a twinkle of humor. A Song for Freedom is an unforgettable story of a gifted artist who has lived an astonishingly rich life.
Saijonmaa began her career as a singer and actress in the Student Theatre in the 1960s and rose to prominence as an interpreter of songs by Mikis Theodorakis. Her best-known songs include Ystävän laulu, Högt över havet and Miten voin kyllin kiittää. In recent years, she has appeared as a featured artist on popular TV shows such as Elämäni biisi and the Swedish hit series Så Mycket Bättre.
Her work has gained international recognition, and in spring 2025 the King and Queen of Sweden awarded her the prestigious Litteris et Artibus medal. Throughout her career, Saijonmaa has been a dedicated advocate for human rights and has served as a United Nations Goodwill Ambassador.
