Information

Mia Kolari’s Silent Insights exhibition will be on display at the Winter Garden of Tampere Hall from September 19 to October 4, 2026. Admission is free, and the exhibition is open during Tampere Hall’s regular opening hours.

Mia Kolari (b. 1978) is a Helsinki-based visual artist who brings the dimension of touch into art. Her works combine painting, textiles, and raised forms in a way that makes them experiences to be both seen and felt.

Kolari’s art is accessible at its core. It invites everyone to take part, regardless of the viewer’s background or way of experiencing. Her works gently and playfully reflect everyday life, self-image, and the pressures of social media.

In her practice, recycled materials, textile surfaces, and painterly elements intertwine. Braille placed alongside the works opens up a parallel way of reading and makes the exhibition genuinely multisensory.

Kolari’s works have been described as moments that invite the viewer to pause and remind us that it is enough to be oneself.

“My art is dedicated to those who find strength and beauty in their own way of being. To those for whom it is enough simply to be exactly who they are. My works emerge at the intersection of silence and the sense of touch. They are built from color, form, and contact, and from an open experience. For me, it is important that art does not observe the viewer from the outside, but instead invites them to be present,” says Mia Kolari.

“Diversity art, as I interpret it, is art that recognizes and embraces difference on every level. It is not uniform, nor does it expect a specific interpretation or performance from its audience. It is an open sensory landscape—works may be touched, and their stories linger. The works are composed of tactile textile surfaces, raised forms, and painterly elements that intertwine with one another. Recycled materials are also present, continuing their own stories as part of a new whole,” she continues.

“I hope my art leaves a mark that does not require words, one that emerges from simply being whole and unfinished. Each work is accompanied by Braille, which extends the story of the piece and makes the experience more multisensory.”
