Erkki Keihäs’s Brushstrokes Along the Way exhibition will be on display in the Winter Garden of Tampere Hall from August 2 to August 30, 2026. Admission is free, and the exhibition is open during Tampere Hall’s regular opening hours.
Erkki Keihäs has been painting with oils for 50 years, interpreting the world he experiences through colour. He has spent countless days at the easel searching for something that would continue to bring him joy in the years to come. Through this exhibition, he hopes that visitors, too, will step into these stories and linger within them. Erkki Keihäs is a member of the Pirkka-Häme Artists’ Association.
“Floating in the amniotic waters of the womb, a person feels safe. Once cast out into the cold world to survive, we are drawn back to water, where light dances across its surface. We can hear its roar, murmur, rage, or gentle lapping, and see how it freezes into monuments of ice, as if pausing for a moment to consider where it is heading. The presence of water brings comfort, creates hope for tomorrow, and invites us to race alongside a stream all the way to distant rapids, continuing onward into the embrace of the endless sea,” says Keihäs.
“Water smooths rough stone into diamond beneath its surface. The surrounding forest casts a protective shade over the stream, while a spring or pond brings openness and reflection into the depths of the woods. Together with the forest’s enchantment, the many forms of water are the sustaining force in my world, drawing me ever more strongly towards them. They guide my paintbrush back to these fundamental themes time and again, so that these images may remain with me even when I can no longer physically reach nature myself,” he continues.
