Finnish-language metal pioneer Mokoma is heading out on a rare acoustic tour this fall. The band, which has released two acoustic albums (Varjopuoli, 2011 and Laulurovio, 2016) during its long career, will be seen in a total of eight locations in November. In addition to familiar songs from the albums, new acoustic arrangements are also expected.
“I’ve missed the live gigs! It only makes sense to offer a slightly calmer atmosphere to counterbalance the metallic sound pressure. The set will include acoustic interpretations familiar from the albums, but the arrangement workshop has also been busy working on new songs. At acoustic gigs, you have to challenge yourself in a completely different way than at electric gigs that ooze physicality. Every sound is heard, whether it’s right or wrong, there’s no protection from the noise, so it’s for the sensitive ones,” says the band’s drummer Janne Hyrkäs.
Mokoma will be supported on the tour by accordion virtuoso Netta Skog, who is also familiar from the band’s previous acoustic tours and the album Laulurovio.
“If I’ve missed the gigs, I’ve missed playing with Netta just as much! Netta creates wonderful complementary sound textures in the songs with her skillful playing, singing and presence,” Hyrkäs continues.
