carbon neutral event
Organize a carbon neutral event. Compensate for the emissions of your event to the own carbon sink of Tampere Hall.
Carbon neutral event – reliably and transparently!

This is how it is done
- The total carbon footprint of the event is determined by our partner Puuni Ltd. The calculations have been prepared in cooperation with the Natural Resources Institute Finland.
- The calculation considers e.g. the duration of the event, the number of participants, the modes and distances of travel and the menu offered. The compensation payment is determined based on these factors.
- The number of trees equivalent to the compensation will be planted in the carbon sink of the Tampere Hall. Our carbon sink is situated in the city of Mikkali, Kovalansuo area.
- You can visit the site to see “how your trees are doing”!
- For example, compensation for a locally organized one day meeting of 80 people, is EUR 50 (VAT 0%). Against this amount, five trees are planted in the carbon sink.
Our carbon sink
- Tampere Hall’s own carbon sink makes it possible to concretely offset the emissions of your event. We offer corporate and association clients the opportunity to compensate for the climate impact of their events by planting trees in Kovalansuo, Mikkeli – a former peat extraction site now being reforested. The new carbon sink will absorb carbon dioxide for at least the next 100 years, and its permanence is secured through a long-term agreement.
- For every event held at Tuulensuu Palace, two saplings are automatically planted. In addition, clients have the option to purchase extra tree plantings to fully offset the specific carbon footprint of their event.
- Tampere Hall’s first carbon sink was established in 2020 in Kulju, Lempäälä, where 2,660 trees were planted. The sink is now at full capacity and will capture up to 1,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide over its lifetime – the equivalent of 250 flights to New York or over five million kilometres driven by car.
- 🎻 The Tampere Chamber Music Festival in 2021 was reportedly Finland’s first carbon-neutral classical music festival – and remains a prime example of how events can leave a positive impact on the environment.

What and why?
- Carbon neutrality is more than just a word – it takes visible, tangible form. Tampere Hall’s carbon sink is a verifiable climate action: we plant trees on land that would not naturally reforest.
- Our carbon sink is genuinely additional. The trees are planted on unused land, meaning they truly increase forest cover and capture carbon directly from the atmosphere.
- At present, plantings take place at Kovalansuo in Mikkeli, a former peat production site that is now being reforested with, for example, silver birch and pine.
- The permanence of the sink is guaranteed for 100 years. The area will remain forested for the entire period, and no logging will take place. A long-term agreement ensures lasting carbon capture.
- Our first carbon sink, Mesikämmenpuisto in Lempäälä, has now reached full capacity. Established in 2020, it will absorb up to 1,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide over the next 100 years.
- The offsetting process is fully transparent and carried out in collaboration with experts. Our trusted partner Puuni Oy is responsible for the implementation and management of the carbon sinks.
- Your clients value sustainability. Consumers and event attendees are increasingly aware of climate issues – a carbon-neutral event strengthens your brand and demonstrates environmental responsibility.
Ecological responsibility is one of our values, so we have gladly seized the opportunity to offset our carbon footprint already on two occasions. The compensation price has been surprisingly reasonable, and the compensation has been made easy, as Tampere Hall takes care of all the work. The possibility of compensation definitely adds value to the event, and has received a lot of positive feedback from our membership as well!
