Japanese Drumming Spectacle Kodo Comes to Tampere Hall in Spring 2026
A Japanese drumming spectacle is coming to Finland. The renowned ensemble has brought centuries-old taiko drumming to audiences around the world.

Kodo is the world’s most renowned taiko drumming group, whose journey began in 1981 on Japan’s Sado Island. This legendary ensemble has introduced the centuries-old art of taiko drumming to global audiences and has given over 6,500 performances across five continents throughout the decades.
The magic of taiko lies in its nuanced expression, brought to life by highly dedicated and rigorously trained master drummers. Each traditional drum has its own distinct character, and Kodo’s powerful and emotive performances blend raw strength with a full spectrum of feeling. It’s no surprise that Kodo continues to draw large audiences around the world year after year.
LUMINANCE is Kodo’s newest production, reflecting the transcendent sense of global connection the group has embraced in its mission to share the aesthetics of taiko worldwide. With nearly half a century of touring experience, this new show places Kodo’s spirit and present-day mission at its very core.
The program presented in Finland this March has been honed on stages around the world. It features classic Kodo pieces such as “O-daiko” and “Yatai-bayashi,” along with audience favorite “Monochrome,” a taiko masterpiece composed by Maki Ishii. In addition to these beloved works, the show includes new compositions by current Kodo members—breathing fresh life into the nostalgic repertoire and propelling the group forward with innovative and creative energy.
In a world where war and pandemics have sadly become part of everyday life, Kodo continues its One Earth Tour, hoping that the echoes of drums played for centuries will uplift and unite people, spark waves of hope, and turn darkness into light. For those who have experienced the magic of Kodo, it is a performance that invites you to lose yourself in its breathtaking brilliance.
