Game On

Game On – Explore the History and Present of Video Games Through Play
This summer, visitors to Tampere Hall will have a unique opportunity to explore the world of video games at the Game On summer exhibition, presented by Tampere Live in collaboration with the Barbican Centre and the City of London Corporation. The exhibition will be open daily at Tampere Hall’s Sorsapuisto Hall from 27 June to 9 August 2026.
Game On will be presented in Finland for the first time in this format. Over the years, the exhibition has been showcased at 44 venues across 28 countries and has attracted more than four million visitors worldwide.

What was the very first video game ever made? What kinds of gaming devices were used in the 1980s? What might gaming look like in the future? You’ll find answers to these and many other questions at the Game On summer exhibition.
The exhibition features more than 100 different video games, all of which visitors are welcome to try and play themselves. Instructions for each game are provided alongside the exhibits.
Please be considerate of other visitors and avoid spending an excessive amount of time on any single game. Also note that queues may occasionally form for some of the most popular titles.

“It is fantastic to bring this internationally acclaimed exhibition to Tampere Hall. The exhibition offers a comprehensive overview of the history and present of gaming – and, above all, the opportunity to experience and play the games firsthand. Today, gaming culture has a strong social and community-building role, bringing people together in meaningful ways, and this family-friendly exhibition showcases that beautifully. We are looking forward to an active and immersive Game On summer,” says Suvi Leinonen, Business Director at Tampere Live.

The games have been grouped into themed sections
The Game On exhibition is divided into eleven different sections, each with its own theme focusing on a particular aspect of gaming. The exhibition is designed to be explored freely, and visitors do not need to follow any specific route. You are welcome to visit the sections that interest you most and explore them in any order you choose.

“We are extremely excited to be collaborating with Tampere Live and to bring the Game On exhibition to Tampere this summer. This is a truly unique exhibition experience — a playable history of video games. The exhibition features more than 100 playable games that showcase the remarkable technological and creative evolution of the gaming industry over the past 60 years,” says Patrick Moran, Head of Commercial Strategy and Partnerships at the Barbican Immersive Department from the Barbican Centre.
“The exhibition includes iconic game franchises such as Mario, Halo and Space Invaders, as well as rare and unique games that are difficult to find elsewhere. We are also looking forward to expanding the exhibition by exploring the history of the Finnish gaming industry and highlighting the significant contributions of Finnish game developers, from the Amiga demo scene of the 1980s to the global phenomenon Angry Birds. Finland is a pioneer in the gaming industry, and we want to showcase that through the Game On exhibition as well. Visitors will experience an exhibition that recognises gaming as one of the most important creative industries of our time,” he continues.
Subject to change.

18+ Evenings on Friday
Welcome to enjoy Game On in a relaxed adults-only atmosphere!
The summer exhibition features an 18+ evening every Friday from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. During this time, the exhibition is reserved exclusively for adults, offering a relaxed opportunity to enjoy the experience and play games at your own pace. Three 18+ games, which are otherwise restricted due to age ratings, will also be available during these evenings.
A separate admission ticket is required for the evening session. If you have a day wristband for Friday, you may also stay for the 18+ evening provided you are 18 or older. Visitors with a single-entry ticket may also remain for the evening if their three-hour admission period has not yet expired and they are 18 or older. Visitors under 18 must leave the exhibition area at 6:00 PM.
Please be prepared to verify your age upon request, for example with a driver’s licence or official ID card.

FAQ
- Can I exchange or refund my ticket, for example due to illness?
All ticket orders are binding and final from the moment of purchase and cannot be exchanged or refunded. - Can I change the date of my date-specific ticket?
Unfortunately, the visit date of a date-specific ticket cannot be changed later. If you are unsure about the timing of your visit, we recommend purchasing an open-date ticket. - Can I enter on the day of my choice with an open-date ticket purchased in advance?
Yes, but for safety reasons we can only allow a limited number of people in Sorsapuistosali at a time, so a queue may occasionally form at the exhibition entrance. - How much time should I reserve for the experience?
An admission ticket allows a 3-hour visit to the exhibition area, which is generally enough time to explore the area and try the games. If you would like to stay longer, we recommend purchasing a full-day wristband, which allows you to remain in the exhibition area for the entire day during opening hours. - Is there a shop at the exhibition?
Yes! Welcome to visit our charming pop-up shop, where you will find unique products inspired by the world of gaming. - Can I visit the shop without an exhibition ticket?
Yes! The Gamer Shop is located outside the exhibition area, so you can come shopping even without an exhibition ticket/wristband. - Is the exhibition suitable for children?
Yes, the exhibition is intended for visitors of all ages and there is no age limit. Children under 4 years of age are admitted free of charge.
