Pave Maijanen’s music comes alive in a new light in a unique joint concert by Club For Five and the Air Force Big Band. Iconic songs such as Lähtisitkö, Jano, and Elämän nälkä take on a fresh new form as the vocal ensemble and big band join forces. The big band arrangements bring a new dimension to Pave’s beloved songs, adding depth, rich dynamics, and rhythmic power. At the same time, the vocal group’s delicate nuances and virtuosic artistry bring the music’s subtleties vividly to life.

Through their outstanding musicianship, the Air Force Big Band and Club For Five create emotional and exhilarating interpretations of well-known songs that have remained close to the hearts of Finns for decades.
Chief Conductor Ville Paakkunainen
Chief Conductor, Major of Music Ville Paakkunainen has served as a conductor of the Guard Band and as Chief Conductor of both the Defence Forces Conscript Band and the Lapland Military Band. In addition to conducting Defence Forces ensembles, he has led the Academic Wind Orchestra, the Lahti Symphonic Wind Orchestra, and orchestras of the Tampere Conservatory, as well as conducting numerous guest performances.
Paakkunainen has also worked as a clarinetist and clarinet teacher, trained wind orchestras, and taught wind orchestra conducting, including at the Military Music School. He has served as Chief Conductor of the Air Force Big Band since 2023.
Club For Five
Club For Five is Finland’s most popular a cappella ensemble. Founded in 2000, the group has gained recognition both in Finland and internationally. The ensemble’s music is not confined to any single genre—Club For Five is equally at home performing jazz, pop, rock, folk music, and classical music.
This virtuosic quintet (Maija Sariola – soprano, Saima Haapanen – alto, Jouni Kannisto – tenor, Juha Viitala – baritone, and Tuukka Haapaniemi – bass) has released 13 studio albums, six of which have achieved gold status. Club For Five’s performances are filled with moving interpretations, insightful humor, exceptional musicianship, and captivating solo performances.
Air Force Big Band
The Air Force Big Band is Finland’s only military band specializing in rhythm music and is renowned for its energetic performances alongside many of the country’s leading soloists. The ensemble consists of 21 musicians, and its concert season includes the AALTO Series big band concerts, the Defence Forces’ MILjazz tour, music education projects, national defence events, and Air Force public relations activities.
Based at the Jyväskylä Garrison in Tikkakoski, the Air Force Band was established in 1977 and has a long tradition of performing big band music.

Enjoy a buffet-style selection featuring, among other delights, locally produced cheeses, cold cuts, and mouth-watering marinated treats. Special dietary requirements are accommodated based on advance notice at the time of booking. A pre-booked seat at the antipasto table served before the performance €22.90. The table is set 1.5 hours before the performance begins on the 3rd floor of Tampere Hall. There is a bar in the space where drinks can be ordered on the spot.
