The superstar of Portuguese fado enraptures audiences at Tampere Hall with her clear voice and compelling stage charisma in May 2024.
The globally acclaimed artist Mariza is best known for her strong soprano voice. She has achieved multi-platinum record sales and filled concert venues from the Sydney Opera House to Central Park in New York. The Portuguese Mozambican artist roots all her work in Portuguese fado, but many of her songs also include influences from the musical traditions of Mozambique, Brazil and Cape Verde.
Mariza made history in 2005, when her album Transparente became the first fado album to top the Portuguese album chart. Since then, this achievement has become more of a rule than an exception, with five of Mariza’s nine albums getting the same reception. Over the years, Mariza has collaborated with global superstars such as Gilberto Gili, Lenny Kravitz and Sting.
During her career, she has collected many awards and nominations, and has been named artist of the year by Womex (2014), Songlines (2016), BBC Radio 3 and the Amália Rodrigues Foundation, among others. Outside her musical career, she is also known for her charity work. She is a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador.
