Pikku Papun Orchestra is a Finnish children’s music ensemble that has been composing and performing original music for children since 2012, delighting audiences of all ages across Finland. The band’s songs are created in collaboration with author and illustrator Liisa Kallio.
Join us at Tampere Hall for a unique concert where music and live illustration come together. During the performance, Liisa Kallio’s beloved illustrations come to life through live drawing, tickling the funny bone and giving wings to the songs.
For more than a decade, Pikku Papun Orchestra has won over audiences both young and old with its energetic performances, acoustic instruments, rich vocal harmonies, and imaginative arrangements that playfully blend different musical styles. At the concert, even the youngest family members are encouraged to join in the songs and games. Cheerful shouting, dancing, and moving along with the music are not only allowed—they’re warmly encouraged!
The orchestra performs extensively throughout Finland, appearing in daycare centres, major concert halls, and public events alike. Many families know Pikku Papun’s songs from Yle TV2’s Pikku Kakkonen, the Musarullaa concert series, and Pikku Papun Aakkoset (“Little Papu’s Alphabet”), a 29-episode Yle series in which children explore the alphabet through songs accompanied by Liisa Kallio’s delightful live illustrations.
The orchestra has released three albums:
- Pikku Papun laulut (Little Papu’s Songs, Tammi, 2012)
- Pikku Papun Orkesteri (Pikku Papun Orchestra, Tammi, 2016)
- Pikku Papun aakkoslorut (Little Papu’s Alphabet Rhymes, Tammi, 2024)
Pikku Papun aakkoslorut is also available on all major music streaming platforms.
Pikku Papun Orchestra received the Early Childhood Music Teachers’ Children’s Album of the Year Award in 2012 and was nominated for the Emma Award for Children’s Album of the Year in 2016. In 2018, the group received a recognition award from the Wihuri Foundation and was named Children’s Music Group of the Year at the Jellonagaala awards. At the 2024 Jellonagaala, the orchestra received nominations in four categories, and the collaboration between UMO Jazz Orchestra and Pikku Papun Orchestra was awarded Children’s Music Achievement of the Year.
