About

A new take on the legendary ballet, Swan Lake, that will enrapture even the most seasoned ballet goers.

Swan Lake is the most widely recognised ballet in the world, blending Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s magnificent music and an iconically beautiful visual world. Top choreographer David McAllister’s new choreography, made in honour of the 100th anniversary of the Finnish National Ballet, will slip the confines of the Opera House in Töölö for the first time for a performance in Tampere.

The stage of Tampere Hall’s Main Auditorium will host the full performance, complete with sets and costumes transported from Helsinki. The music will be played by the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra. The cast for the performance will be published at a later date.

“Visiting ballet acts are an important tradition for Tampere Hall and the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as a fantastic opportunity to bring some of the best dance art out there to Tampere in the form of ballet. We are extremely pleased to see our collaboration with the Finnish National Ballet continue,” says Tampere Hall’s Business Director Suvi Leinonen.

Swan Lake tells a familiar tale of the princess of a distant land, Odette, who has been kidnapped and turned into a swan by the evil sorcerer Rothbart. Swan Lake has a long history at the Finnish National Ballet, which chose it as its first performance one hundred years ago. ‘Finnishness’ has been in fact a source of inspiration in McAllister’s version, which is deeply rooted in the classical ballet tradition.
