Hector Berlioz’s obsessive love affair became the source material for his breakthrough work. The Symphonie Fantastique turned into an opium-induced trip of powerful twists, where scenes that follow the logic of dreams resound as a tantalizing orchestral cocktail. Conductor-composer Ryan Wigglesworth distills historical style shifts into a piano concerto hailed as one of the finest of recent decades.
