The Joulukalenteri – Anniversary Screening at Tampere Hall!
A Hosted Screening with Trio Saletti
The original cast of The Joulukalenteri returns to revisit the cult classic! Due to overwhelming demand, the legendary television series will be celebrated not only in the Helsinki metropolitan area but also in Tampere this December.
First aired in 1997, The Joulukalenteri has developed a cult following over the years. The series’ original cast members Seppo Korjus, Kari Lehtomäki, and Raimo Smedberg will take part in the The Joulukalenteri anniversary screening at the Small Hall of Tampere Hall on Sunday, December 20, at 4:30 PM.
The hosted screening will feature Trio Saletti’s memories from the making of the series and stories from behind the scenes. Between the stories, the audience will watch some of the series’ most legendary moments and the actors’ favourite scenes together.
The event will conclude with a Meet & Greet, which is included in the ticket price.
The Joulukalenteri is based on the Danish comedy series The Julekalender (1991). A Norwegian version was made in 1994, and Finnish entertainment legend Jukka Virtanen (1933–2019) adapted and directed the Finnish version based on the Norwegian series.
In the parody Christmas calendar series, an old elf named Iki-Iäkäs (Virtanen) is dying because the music box that plays the melody of his life is about to stop. Iki-Iäkäs sends three elves—Toivo (Lehtomäki), Kauko (Korjus), and Hande (Smedberg)—to Finland to retrieve the key to the music box from an old cave in Keuruu.
The elves encounter a series of problems and are also pursued by the terrifying Näsä (Lehtomäki), who has disguised himself as a travelling salesman and is staying at a farm near the cave with the Santanen couple (Korjus and Smedberg).
The series is remembered for its absurd humour, the elves’ distinctive Finglish, catchphrases, and songs, the best-known of which is probably “On rankkaa olla tonttumies”, which became the show’s signature song.
Korjus, Lehtomäki, and Smedberg, who appear in dual roles in the series, are best known as musicians. Korjus and Smedberg spent decades performing with the band Seitsemän Seinähullua Veljestä, while Lehtomäki has been a member of both Seinähullut and, for many years, Finlanders.
