The European Aerosol Conference, the most influential event in its field, was held in Finland for the first time in August. Tampere and Tampere Hall were selected as the conference location thanks to their central location.

“The accessibility of Tampere Hall was excellent, and the surrounding area offered plenty of options for accommodation, for example,” says Professor Miikka Dal Maso from Tampere University, Chair of the conference.

The organisers also received positive feedback on the wide range of restaurants nearby and the easy train connection from Helsinki Airport to Tampere. Tampere Hall is also only a short distance from Tampere railway station.

The entire venue in use

The conference required a large number of rooms and halls, which is why the whole of Tampere Hall was dedicated to the event. According to Dal Maso, the facilities met expectations well and were sufficient as a whole.

“The facilities were very functional, and the operations were professional throughout. We received good feedback from participants on the versatility of the venue,” Dal Maso continues.

Dal Maso says that the technical services worked well. The technical requirements were met, and help was available quickly when needed.

“We received help quickly when needed and were pleased with the service.”

Praise for the restaurant services

During the week-long conference, participants were offered the opportunity to have lunch, and both smaller and larger coffee services were arranged throughout the conference week. These were seen as an essential part of the conference.

“We received a lot of praise for the quality of the catering. The venue’s facilities and restaurant services also worked well for the volunteers. Not every venue can provide volunteers or organisers with their own dining space, so that is definitely a major advantage at Tampere Hall,” Dal Maso describes.

Talo Events supported the conference arrangements

The Finnish Aerosol Research Society, which organised the conference on a voluntary basis, was supported by a local congress organiser. Talo Events, a subsidiary of Tampere Hall, was a strong choice for the role. Tampere Hall is a familiar environment for the Talo Events congress team, and the team has extensive experience in organising large international events.

“Talo Events was proactive and provided us with a lot of useful information, which improved our ability to succeed as organisers. Communication worked well, and we had nothing to complain about,” says Dal Maso.

Dal Maso says that the Finnish Aerosol Research Society was pleased with the feedback received from participants. He says that the venue had a good atmosphere and a professional approach. Participants described the conference as one of the best, if not the best, they had attended. Tampere as a city was also seen in a positive light, which may support recruitment to the field in the future.

The aim of the event was to promote aerosol research and science in Finland and increase its visibility. Holding the conference in Tampere enabled many Finnish aerosol researchers to attend.

“Finnish research received a lot of positive visibility. Its strong reputation was maintained, and may even have improved. The conference week was also a financial success, as there were enough participants and the society generated some income. I would definitely recommend Tampere Hall as an event venue — in fact, I already have!”
