The Finnish National Ballet visits Tampere Hall on 25–26 May. The gala performances open with Moomin and the Magician’s Hat, a ballet meant for the whole family. After the intermission, it is time for the culmination of the entire spring season: the Finnish National Ballet’s grand gala.
Moomin and the Magician’s Hat is based on Tove Jansson’s novel and produced by choreographer Kenneth Greve, known for his popular ballets, and composer Tuomas Kantelinen. The piece follows the familiar story of a mysterious magician’s hat and has charmed sold-out audiences in Japan, Helsinki and Oulu.
The grand gala, in its turn, is a versatile compilation of classic ballet and modern dance. You will see a selection of classic ballets, such as Javier Torres’s Sleeping Beauty, Alexei Ratmansky’s Anna Karenina and Kenneth Greve’s The Snow Queen. The gala also includes interesting contemporary dance pieces, specifically tailored for the ballet dancers.
“It is important that opera and ballet are visible even outside Helsinki. I am excited that I get to bring the Finnish National Ballet to Tampere. Tampere Hall offers a good, well-functioning framework for the ballet company’s visit,” says Madeleine Onne, Artistic Director at the Finnish National Ballet.
According to Tampere Hall’s CEO Paulina Ahokas, the home of the world’s only Moomin Museum is the perfect stage for the popular Moomin ballet:
“Our Main Auditorium is built exactly for these kinds of grand visits. Three quarters of Finns lives less than two hours from Tampere. We are extremely happy that we can make our national Opera House’s production even more accessible for the Finnish audience,” comments Paulina Ahokas, CEO at Tampere Hall.
The Finnish National Ballet’s last visit to Tampere Hall was in 2010 with Kenneth Greve’s Swan Lake ballet. Moomin and the Magician’s Hat is performed with permission from Agency North Ltd and Moomin Characters.
The event has additional seats and an intermission.
The music is recorded.
