Santtu-Matias Rouvali conducts Requiem by Verdi in Tampere Hall

In October 2021, Tampere Hall will present one of the most dramatic choral works in musical history, Verdi’s Requiem, in co-operation with Tampere Filharmonia, Tampere Opera’s choir, Tampere Philharmonic Choir and four spectacular soloists. The piece will be conducted by the orchestra’s own chief conductor Santtu-Matias Rouvali, and the soloists will include Marjukka Tepponen who starred as Micaëla in Tampere Opera’s Carmen in spring 2020, contralto Maiju Vaahtoluoto who made her debut at the Finnish National Opera in autumn 2017, and tenor Andrea Shin and bass Giorgi Kirof who both made their debuts at New York’s Metropolitan in 2018. Kirof was seen in the role of Padre Guardino in Tampere Opera’s production of Verdi’s The Power of Fate in 2016. The first performance of Verdi’s Requiem will be on Maundy Thursday, 9 April at 7:00 p.m. The concert will also be performed on Easter Saturday, 11 April at 3:00 p.m.

Giuseppe Verdi’s (1813–1901) Requiem has been called his best work of opera, and not in vain. The piece features one of the most earth-shattering doomsday depictions in musical history. Grief and the related array of emotions get under the audience’s skin, unlike in many other, more spiritual requiems.

The duration of the concert is 70 minutes.
